Class A track meet concludes, Cheverus second

The weather-affected Class A state outdoor track and field championship meet concluded Wednesday with the pole vault event at Bates College. When all was said and done, Cheverus’ boys wound up where they left off four days prior, second to Sanford, 76 points to 65. Deering (30 points) tied Windham for ninth. Portland did not score. There was more drama on the girls’ side, as Scarborough used the pole vault to leapfrog Edward Little and triumph, 84.5-80. Cheverus had 34 points and placed seventh. Deering (9 points) came in 20th. Portland did not score.

McAuley seeks FH coaches

Catherine McAuley High School is seeking a varsity and a JV field hockey coach. Past field hockey coaching at the high school level or beyond preferred. All candidates must be able to meet the MPA requirements for coaching certification. Coaches must have strong leadership, teaching and communication skills. Waynflete coaching openings

Waynflete School has several coach openings for the 2012-13 school year. In the fall, there are openings for JV girls’ soccer, freshman boys’ soccer, 8th grade girls’ soccer and middle school field hockey. Ziggy’s Running Camp upcoming

Waynflete’s Summertime 2012 Ziggy’s Running Camp, a comprehensive four-day cross country camp for boys and girls in grades 5-12, will be held June 26-29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp is run by Brian “Ziggy” Gillespie, a member of the Maine Running Hall of Fame. Cougar Field Hockey camp upcoming

Cougar Field Hockey camps will be held in Portland, Hampden Academy and Boothbay this summer. The Portland camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27-30 at Fitzpatrick Stadium. FMI, cougarfh.com.

Old Port Hoopla upcoming

The Old Port Hoopla 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held July 14-15 at Ocean Gateway Terminal in the Old Port. There will be men’s, women’s, high school and middle school categories, as well as contests and activities all weekend. FMI, oldporthoopla.com.
