The Southern Maine Activities Association released its football all-conference team last week and several city players were honored. The first-team offense included Cheverus running back Donald Goodrich, Cheverus lineman Jim Peabody-Harrington and Portland running back Justin Zukowski. Deering utilityman James Doyle and lineman Matt Fechenda, along with Portland lineman Tate Gale, made the second team. The first-team defense featured Cheverus tackle Parker Doyon, Cheverus linebacker Ryan Casale and Deering back Kenny Sweet and Deering tackle Tyler Wiggins. Cheverus backs Liam Fitzpatrick and Brent Green, Deering end James Doyle and Portland tackle Kyle Reichert and back Nick Volger made the second team. Cheverus’ Casale, Matt Cushing, Kevin Day, Fitzpatrick, Michael Flaherty, Goodrich and Green, Deering’s Sweet and Elijah Tabachnick and Portland’s Gale, Marcus Caliendo and Reichert qualified for the All-Academic team.
Several city soccer standouts were recently named to the SMAA all-conference team. The boys’ first team included Deering senior back Nathan Finberg and sophomore midfielder Stephen Ochan and Portland senior forward Tim Rovnak.Deering junior midfielder David Bujambi and Portland senior goalkeeper Chip Weber made the second team. Deering senior back Jimmy Fasulo and sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Russo and Portland sophomore back Connor Bruce and junior midfielder Liban Hassan were honorable mentions. The boys’ All-Academic team included Cheverus’ James Campbell, Jinwoo Lee, Jason Rubinoff and Tyler Small, Deering’s Jacob Chandler, James Fasulo, Nathan Finberg and Tom Kiffney and Portland’s Evan Caliendo, Tim Rovnak and Chip Weber. The girls’ first-team included Cheverus junior forward Abby Maker and senior midfielder Darby Rawcliffe, Deering junior forward Alexis Elowitch and junior midfielder Edie Pallozzi and McAuley senior midfielder Delaney Regan. Deering senior back Samantha Sivovlos, McAuley senior goalkeeper Molly Miller and Portland senior back Ashley Frank were named to the second team. McAuley junior back Katherine Lake was an honorable mention. The girls’ All-Academic team included Cheverus’ Jamie Dulac, Kelsey Dulac, Danielle Kane, Mikayla Mayberry, Eden Monsen, Hannah Noonan and Darby Rawcliffe, Deering’s Whitney Adell, Sydney Kucine and Samantha Sivovlos, McAuley’s Delaney Regan and Portland’s Ashley Frank and Sophie Hulbert.
