Waynflete seeks spring coach

Waynflete School is looking for a middle school boys’ lacrosse coach for the upcoming spring season. The season begins in early March and runs through the end of May. FYI, rburdick@waynflete.org.

Hot Shot competition upcoming

The Maine Recreation and Parks Association/Red Claws Hotshot basketball skills competition for ages 9-15 will be held Sunday at the Reiche School. There will be three different age divisions, 9-and-10, 11-and-12 and 13-14-15. Girls begin at 10 a.m. Boys at 11:30 a.m. The competition involves shooting from five “hot spots” and tests the contestants speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding. Longest running 3-on-3 benefit tournament seeks teams

The Swish-Out and Junior Swish-Out, Maine’s longest running, continuous 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, will be held Sunday, Feb. 10. The co-ed, double elimination program is seeking teams to take part. It is open to adults 18 and older. The entry fee is $100 per team. FMI, 773-5671, ext. 273, or jparadise@maincul.org.

SMCC teams bested by rival NHTI

Both Southern Maine Community College basketball teams suffered frustrating losses to rival New Hampshire Technical Institute last Tuesday. The women fell, 73-59, despite Esther Palmieri’s 13 points and 12 points from Tiana Burton. The men lost for the first time this semester, 78-65. Emmanuel Donalson had a team-high 21 points in defeat. Former Deering High standout Jon Amabile added 16. Saturday, the women bounced back with a 75-60 overtime win over Vermont Tech. Alicia Hoyt led the Seawolves (11-6 overall, 6-3 in the Yankee Small College Conference) with 22 points, while Palmieri added 21. The SMCC men dropped another tough one, 77-70, despite 23 points from Amabile. The Seawolves fell to 16-5 (10-2 in conference). Both SMCC teams are at Eastern Maine CC Wednesday.
