PORTLAND — Oct. 5 is the deadline to register to bring unused pesticides and herbicides to state-authorized collection sites.

John Bott of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry said that department’s Board of Pesticides Control and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection are teaming up to collect pesticides in Portland, Bangor, Augusta and Presque Isle.

Pesticide collection is free, but requires registration; drop-ins are not permitted. Those registering will be told where and when to take pesticides to the collection sites.

Registration and more information is via thinkfirstspraylast.org, or by calling 287-2731.
