PORTLAND — The Alfond Business, Community & Democracy political action committee, established by state Senate President Justin Alfond, D-Portland, was fined $1,500 July 31 for its failure to report donations and spending from last year.

The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics & Election Practices voted 4-0 to assess the fine recommended by commission Executive Director Jonathan Wayne.

The violations occurred on quarterly spending reports filed in October 2013 and January, and were self-reported last month to the commission by Alfond. Including accrued interest from the dates of the violations, the PAC could have been fined almost $32,000.

The reports did not include $6,400 in donations and $24,500 in contributions to the Maine Democratic Party, as well as a $49 cash deposit and $19.75 paid to a Massachusetts-based fundraising company.
