PORTLAND — Maine Senate President Justin Alfond, D-Portland, will find out Thursday if his political action committee will be fined for reporting errors.

The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices could fine the Alfond Business, Community & Democracy PAC more than $31,700 for omissions on its October 2013 and January 2014 quarterly spending reports. Commission Executive Director Jonathan Wayne has recommended a $1,500 fine.

Violations include unreported contributions totaling $6,000 in the October 2013 quarterly report, and an unreported $6,500 donation to the Maine Democratic Party.

Unlisted in the January 2014 quarterly report were a $49 cash deposit, $400 in donations, $18,000 contributed to the Maine Democratic Party and $19.75 paid to ActBlue, a Somerville, Massachusetts, company that directs online fundraising campaigns.

Alfond was treasurer of the PAC at the time of the violations, which Wayne said he reported July 17.
