PORTLAND — Three city firehouses are accepting donations to help the Mobile Medical Outreach Project.

The project teams up with the city Health & Human Services and Fire Departments to assist the adult homeless population with medical care, referrals and education services.

The program, developed last spring, joins paramedics with Milestone Foundation’s Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement, or HOME Team, and then with staff at the Oxford Street Shelter.

The project is now seeking donations of new socks and underwear; new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and mittens; backpacks, and hand and foot warmers.

Donations of cases of bottled water, snacks, or gift cards from Walmart, Target or Hannaford Bros. are also encouraged.

Donations can be made at the Central Fire Station, 380 Congress St., the Munjoy Hill Fire Station, 134 Congress St., and the Rosemont Fire Station, 212 Stevens Ave.
