PORTLAND — Artists are invited to submit design ideas by July 15 to decorate city utility boxes.

“The artwork is intended to beautify the urban landscape, increase civic participation, and support the local arts community,” city spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said in a June 10 press release.

Five artists will be selected to paint designated utility boxes. Each will earn a $300 stipend from the Public Art Committee, which has received donations from NBT Bank and Port Property Management. The Portland Police Department is also sponsoring the project.

The stipends will be paid upon completion and approval of the work. Artists are responsible for the cost of project materials. For more information, visit the city website.
