PORTLAND — The city and Portland’s Downtown District have begun their annual search for a Christmas tree to be installed in Monument Square during the holiday season, and the public is invited to make suggestions.

The tree should be from 40-60 feet tall and “well-rounded, stately,” according to a PDD press release. The selected tree will be decked with 3,000 LED lights, to be illuminated for the first time on Friday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m.

Trees in need of removal anywhere within 15 miles of Portland will be considered. The selected tree will be cut and transported at no cost to the owner.

Submissions, including a picture of the tree and the address and phone number of its owner, can be emailed to info@portlandmaine.com or mailed to Portland’s Downtown District, 549 Congress St., Portland, ME 04101.
