PORTLAND — The School Department is seeking public input on possible changes to storm-day procedures.

The proposal is to delay start times for city schools for up to two hours on days when storms end in the morning, as an alternative to canceling school due to inclement weather. Decisions would be made on a case-by-case basis.

The goal is to reduce the number of snow days. But the Portland Public Schools wants input from parents and the community, and has sent a survey out to district families. The survey can also be found on the department’s website.

The schools are not exploring the possibility of releasing students from school early due to weather, except in emergency situations.
