PORTLAND — The School Department may now decide to delay the start of school one hour because of bad weather, instead of canceling for the entire day.

For students who ride a bus, the buses will come one hour later than normal. Students will leave school at their regular times.

On delayed start days, the morning session at Portland Arts and Technology High School, which runs from 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m., will be canceled. Additionally, all Portland Recreation before-school care will be canceled on days when there is a one-hour delay.

The district will continue to cancel school days entirely when deemed appropriate.

Notices of delayed starts will be found on local television stations, the district’s website, portlandschools.org, on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and the district’s television cable station, Channel 3.

Also, households will receive a robo call on the day of the delay or cancellation, usually around 6 a.m.
