PORTLAND — Nearly 50 students from Portland High School and Deering High School won awards in the 2011 National Spanish Exam.
Awards are given in the Oro (gold), Plata (silver), Bronce (bronze) and Honor (honors) categories.
Grace Kiffney of Deering High School earned the Oro award.
Margaret Adham and Debra Polanco of Portland High School; and Madeleine Oswald and Heidy Castaneda of Deering High School earned Plata awards.
The Bronce award was presented to Alex Abreu, Victoria Clayton, Megan Anderson, Jeremy Ravenelle, Eleanor Altholz, Julie Orrego, Keishla Quiles and Alison Savage, all of Portland High School; and Julia Kang, of Deering High School.
The Honor award was presented to Portland High School students Andrew Ahonen, Emily Burton, Jacob Fogel, Camille Hanley, Grace Hanley, Clare Kenney, Zora Kesich, Erin Mahoney, Colin Merrill, Bridget Ruff, Sarah Hesselink, Maria Reyes, Paley Burlin, Julia Conley, Kellianne Dolan, Keanan Fox, Isaac Jaegerman, Jacob Katsiaficas, Marc Korobkin, Barry Quinn, Katherine Suslovic, Casey Waldren, Charles Weber and Jeffrey Peisner; and Deering High School students Ania Chandler, Thomas Dean, Kathleen Donlan, Samuel Goldberg, Michael Hebert, Jaqueline Huynh, Daniella Kahn, Veronica Mitchell, Logan Roche, Ariana Solodar-Wincele and Paulina Sottery.
PORTLAND — Twenty-Six Portland High School students have won awards on the National Latin Exam.
Maddie Holton won a gold medal.
Silver medal winners are Cody Cook, Evan Peaco, Margaret Adham, Charlie Gauvin and Ryan Dixon.
Magna cum laude winners are: Jack Swann, Annette Denekas, Monica Reno, Tiffany Harlow, Alli Briggs and Meghan Kelly.
The following students earned cum laude honors: Will Chapman, Clare Kenny, Kiril Slussky, Isabel Walter, Jack Carroll, Anthony Green, Tyler Strauss, Jesse Lupica-Nowlin, Rachel Waterhouse, Brett Howell, Emma Chance, Justin Very, Agnes Jackson and Boutavee Kim.
The Deering High School Players present “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 12-13, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, in the Deering High School auditorium. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Deering attendance office during school hours, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., for $7 per adult and $5 per student.
