PHS Class of 1961 50-year reunion

PORTLAND — The Portland High School Class of 1961 will be holding its 50th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 6, at The Fireside Inn & Suites on Riverside Street in Portland.

A social hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner and dance. Live music will be performed by Bill O’Neil. The cost is $50 per person.

Deering teacher earns Russell Award

PORTLAND — Annick Cadot, a French teacher at Deering High School for 16 years, has been named the 2011 Russell Award winner by the The University of Southern Maine.

USM has presented an award for the past 31 years to a Deering High School teacher in recognition of excellence in teaching.

Morin earns community service award

PORTLAND — The Portland Rotary Club recently presented Hillary Morin of Cheverus High School with its Community Service Award.

The award and scholarship is given to students who best exemplify the Rotary motto of “service above self.”

Morin, an honor student at Cheverus High School, is a member of the school’s Math Team, National Honor Society and Jazz choir. Additionally, she is an active member of the Girl Scouts.
