Students donate cash and stuffed animals to Camp Susan Curtis

Students at two Portland high schools helped raise funds for Camp Susan Curtis, an outdoor leadership program designed to teach skills to disadvantaged children and teenagers from across Maine.

A dress-up day sponsored by the Social Action Club at McAuley High School Raised $360. Students presented Camp Susan Curtis Executive Director Melissa Cilley with a check for $360 and baskets of bug spray and sunscreen. The monetary donation will be used to fund two bunk beds through a partnership with Cape Elizabeth High School students.

Cheverus students held a last-minute drive in June upon learning that the campers would not have enough stuffed animals to present each child with his or her own. The students collected close to 300 stuffed animals to supplement the supply for the approximately 500 children expected at camp this summer.
