PHS hosts eighth
grade open house

PORTLAND — Portland High School is hosting an eighth grade open house on Thursday, Jan. 7 at the high school located at 284 Cumberland Ave.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., eighth grade students and family are welcome to meet high school faculty and coaches  to learn about academic programs, sports, extra-curricular activities and more.

Breakwater holds
admissions open house

PORTLAND — On Saturday, Jan. 9, the Breakwater School is holding an admissions open house for interested families from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at its Portland campus at 856 Brighton Ave.

The open house will highlight the school’s outdoor adventure program and feature a dog sledding demonstration led by two professional dog sledders.

Portland Schools hosts
community meeting Jan. 20

PORTLAND — A community meeting will be held  at the Portland Expo at 7 p.m., Jan. 20, to discuss a new common schedule framework for Portland’s public high schools.

Parents, students, and interested residents are welcome to attend.

The High School Common Schedule Task Force, made up of parents, teachers and administrators, has created a proposed common schedule framework. Portland Superintendent James Morse’s presentation of the proposed common schedule can be found at www.portlandschools.org.

After collecting public comment, the framework will be revised and presented to the School Committee on Feb. 24.

Portland Schools launch
alumni Facebook fan page

PORTLAND — Portland Public Schools has created a Facebook fan page for alumni of the district’s four high schools: Portland High School, Deering High School, Casco Bay High School and Portland Arts and Technology High School.

The fan page can be found by searching for “Portland Public Schools Alumni,” while logged into Facebook. News and events of interest for alumni are posted, and plans for alumni profiles and class reunion information are in the works.
