Portland High presents
‘The Mousetrap’ Feb. 10-11

PORTLAND —The Portland High School drama club will be presenting Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 and Friday, Feb. 11.

The student-produced and directed play will be held at Portland High School’s auditorium at 284 Cumberland Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students or seniors. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Cheverus earns top marks
at debate championship

PORTLAND — Cheverus High School senior Kelly Thomas placed first with a perfect record of 6-0 in the varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate division of the Maine Forensic Association State Championships held recently at Maranacook Community High School.

Cheverus senior Aubrey Haskell earned fourth place in the Lincoln-Douglas debate division.

The Lincoln-Douglas debate division, a one-on-one debate format, debated the theme “In the United States, juveniles charged with violent felonies ought to be treated as adults in the criminal justice system.” More than 300 students from 24 high schools throughout the state participated in the competition.

Overall, the Cheverus Debate Team earned third place in the state in the team sweepstakes.

Cheverus students named
to national honor society

PORTLAND — Cheverus High School recently had 44 students inducted into the National Honor Society.

The National Honor Society serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
