Curley earns Saint
Michael’s Book Award
COLCHESTER, Vt. — William W. Curley, a student at Deering High School, was named the 2009 recipient of the Saint Michael’s College Scholarship and Service Book Award.
The award is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and leadership through community service.
Lam awarded
$1,500 scholarship
PORTLAND — The Portland Water District Board of Trustees awarded the 2009 Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship to Alvin Lam of Portland.
During his senior year at Deering High School, Lam attended an advanced science research project through the University of Southern Maine evaluating waste-water treatment processes. He plans to study biochemistry at the University of New England this fall.
The Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship was established in memory of longtime Portland Water District Trustee, Joe DiPietro, and is awarded to a student who is striving to protect public health and the environment.
Potthoff initiated
into honor society
BURLINGTON, Vt. — Brownwyn Potthoff of Portland was recently inducted into the Alpha Alpha Psi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.
Potthoff was one of 50 University of Vermont students initiated into the honor society.
