USM recognizes
scholarship students

PORTLAND — The following USM students from Portland were awarded scholarships for 2009-2010 academic year: Marion Josephine Acheson, a nursing student, was awarded the Mabel G. Skillin Nursing Scholarship and the Anthem Outstanding Academic Achievement Scholarship; Crystal Betters, a nursing student, was awarded the Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Nursing Scholarship; Kyle Allen Jongerden, an education student, was awarded the Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship; Kayla Methot, a nursing student, was awarded the Dr. Robert H. McRea Jr. Memorial Scholarship.

Mitchell Institute
awards scholarships

PORTLAND — The Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute has selected three students from Portland as 2009 Mitchell Scholars.

Catherine Farsaci of Casco Bay High School and Igor Radosavljevic of Portland High School were among the 130 Maine high school students to receive the scholarship.

Nattakul Vivattanakulpanit, of Deering High School, was named a 2009 Mitchell Scholar and was one of five recipients awarded of the Unum Stephen B. Center Diversity Leadership Award.
