These local students were awarded scholarships for studies in science, technology, engineering and math:

The Cheverus High School Outing Club has been awarded a $500 grant from Teens to Trails, a Maine nonprofit dedicated to engaging young people with the outdoors. The grant will be used for a cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trip in February or March.
Twelve Cheverus high School students took part in two social justice retreats on Dec. 13 and 20 by volunteering at the Riverton Community Center and the Preble Street Resource Center.
Portland residents Alex Casey, Mariel Dalvet, Nick Donatelli, Guthrie Dyer, Brian Reardon and Emily Zhao were joined by Spencer Desrochers of Biddeford, Erin Fitzpatrick of Yarmouth, Brad Kritzer of South Portland, Connor Maines of Windham, Greyson Potter of Saco, and Forrest Smith of Kennebunk in the retreats.
From Jan. 7-11 Casco Bay High School students took a week of intensive courses, with themes ranging from financial literacy to journalism to guitar-making. Each course included hands-on field work and interaction with experts in the community.
