Five students awarded
scholarships for Cheverus

PORTLAND — Cheverus High School has awarded five incoming freshman students its Ignatian Scholarship.

the award, based on exam scores and application, includes a $2,500 scholarship towards tuition for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Awardees include; Margaret Olore of South Portland, Abigail Reuscher of South Portland, Samantha Savaun of Portland, Forrest Smith of Kennebunk, and Tanyalak Vattanasil of Portland.

Odyssey of the Mind teams
rank high at state meet

PORTLAND — The Odyssey of the Mind team at Casco Bay High School in Portland won first place in division three at the state competition held recently at Sanford High School.

The team will advance to the World Finals held in Ames, Iowa on May 27-31.

Lyman Moore Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind team also won third place in division two at the state competition for middle schools.

La Rochelle earns
Eagle Scout rank

PORTLAND — Cheverus High School senior, Nicholas Patrick La Rochelle, son of Peter and Mary Lynne La Rochelle of Gray, earned the rank of Eagle Scout at a recent Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held at Cheverus.

La Rochelle’s Eagle Scout project involved designing and making building improvements at the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine, a cat shelter and adoption center in Cumberland.
