PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Education has named Presumpscot Elementary School a “High Performance Reward School” based on student performance and improvement.

The school, in North Deering, is among 20 Maine schools in that category, which have “consistently demonstrated high progress or achieved great performance toward meeting state and federal accountability standards for English language arts and mathematics,” according to a Portland Public Schools news release.

High Performance Reward schools have met all “annual targets and are also performing within the highest 15 percent of Title I schools,” the release said.

Schools with high numbers of low-income students are designated Title 1 schools and are eligible for federal grants.
