PORTLAND — State Rep. Heather Sanborn, D-Portland, announced she will seek the state Senate seat in District 28.

Sanborn announced her candidacy Dec. 14 at Rising Tide Brewing Co. on Fox Street, which she co-owns. She will run to succeed Sen. Mark Dion, D-Portland, who is seeking his party’s nomination for governor.

Sanborn is in the second year of her first term representing House District 43, which encompasses the north and west of Portland and a portion of Falmouth. She was elected in 2016 to replace Dion.

Senate District 28 encompasses north and west Portland and a portion of Westbrook.

Party candidates for governor, the Legislature and other county offices must submit nomination petitions by March 15, 2018. Primary elections will be held June 12, 2018.
