PORTLAND — Residents looking to pick up winter salt and sand for use at home can do so at the new Public Works Department stockpile on Kennebec Street between Paris and Brattle streets.

City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said Monday the pile is across the street from the U.S. Post Offic garage, and is available for residential use, not by contractors.

Residents are allowed to fill two 5-gallon pails per visit and must bring their own shovels, Grondin said. For more information and directions, call Public Works dispatchers at 874-8493.
