PORTLAND — Federal grants totaling $2.78 million will be used to fund low-income city housing programs, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced July 23.

The grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development include $1.8 million in Community Development Block Grants, $821,000 for the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and a $162,000 Emergency Solutions Grant.

Programs to be funded by the grants were determined May 4 by the City Council.
