PORTLAND — Police said a man threatened a clerk with a handgun at the Gulf Mart at 754 Congress St. on Tuesday night, but fled without taking any money.
Lt. James Sweatt said the suspect entered the store around 10:25 p.m. and demanded cash, and then fled on foot on Neal Street. No customers were in the store and no one was injured.
Police described the suspect as about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black shirt under a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with a black hat, black sunglasses and covered his face with a black bandanna.
Anyone with information on the attempted robbery is asked to contact police at 874-8584, or with an anonymous text with the keyword “GOTCHA” and a message to 274637.
