PORTLAND — Police are seeking information about six suspicious fires early Tuesday morning in East Deering.
Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch said the fires occurred between 1:50 a.m. and 3:25 a.m. in piles of trash, discarded Christmas trees, and outside dumpsters. The first fire was reported at 970 Baxter Blvd., the second in Payson Park. Fires were simultaneously reported at 2 West Presumpscot St., 500 Washington Ave., 9 Veranda St. and 15 Randall St.
Malloch said the fires were quickly extinguished by city firefighters, with no injuries or structure damage.
Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call 874-8533. Anonymous tips can be made online at portland-police.com by clicking “Submit an Anonymous Crime Tip.” Tips can also be texted to 274637, using the keyword GOTCHA.
