PORTLAND — Two men are facing charges after their arrest Friday afternoon during an undercover prostitution sting.

Michael Kusnirak, 55, of Scarborough, and Orlando Perez, 44, of Portland, are facing multiple charges, according to City Hall spokeswoman Nicole Clegg.

Clegg said the undercover operation was in response to complaints from residents in the Parkside neighborhood, who have said men have been following them seeking sex.

Kusnirak and Perez were nabbed after they approached an undercover police officer at the corner of Congress and Weymouth streets and offered her money in exchange for sex, Clegg said.

A records check on Perez also revealed he changed his name from Orlando Deperez, Clegg said. That suspect has past convictions for gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact, and has a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender. Since changing his name, he had not registered with Portland police.

In addition to being charged with engaging a prostitute, Perez is accused of possession of cocaine and failure to comply with the sex offender registry, while Kusnirak is charged with engaging a prostitute.
