PORTLAND — Police made an arrest Monday in the investigation of two home-invasion robberies that occurred within hours of each other Sunday morning.

Kaemar Wilson, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with armed robbery in connection with one of the incidents, at 233 Cumberland Ave.

Wilson was arrested during a traffic stop on St. John Street on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

A second man in the stopped car, Fitzgerald Carryl, 30, of New York, also was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. In addition, he was charged with assault on a police officer and aggravated reckless conduct after he attempted to take an officer’s weapon.

Wilson is being held on $10,000 cash bail, and Carryl’s bail was set at $5,000 cash.

The back-to-back robberies began about 5 a.m. Sunday, when a Portland woman standing outside 218 Park Ave. was approached by two men wearing dark clothing and masks, police reported. One of the men pointed a handgun at the woman and then struck her head with it.

The men then forced her into the building, where they kicked in an apartment door and robbed its occupants of several electronic devices.

The robbers fled, and the woman was treated at Maine Medical Center for a non-life-threatening head laceration.

At 10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Cumberland Avenue address to investigate a report of a similar robbery.

According to the report, two men wearing dark clothing and masks forced their way into an apartment, stole money and electronic devices from the occupants and threatened them with a handgun. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Investigations into the robberies are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Portland Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 874-8533.
