PORTLAND — A trio of armed robberies last week remain under investigation by police.

In separate press releases, Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch said the robberies occurred July 15 and 17, with the two most recent happening within an hour of each other near Back Cove.

In the July 17 robberies, Malloch said a black man, about 20 years old, allegedly pointed a handgun at a man in the parking lot at the Hannaford Bros. store at 295 Forest Ave. and demanded his cell phone.

About an hour later, Malloch said the same suspect allegedly approached a woman in the parking lot of Seaside Nursing Home at 850 Baxter Blvd. and ordered her out of her 2004 Honda Pilot.

Police said the vehicle was recovered that evening. The suspect is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall, was wearing dark clothing and has an Afro hair style.

Police are also seeking two suspects in an armed robbery alleged to have occurred around 10:20 p.m. July 15 in the parking lot of Tortilla Flats restaurant at 1871 Forest Ave.

Malloch said the victims, a 26-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, both of Windham, were allegedly approached by two males, each armed with handguns.

A purse and cell phone were taken, and police said the suspects fled on foot toward the Wellesey Estates apartments. Both suspects were described as black males with medium builds, wearing dark hoodies. One was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, the other about 6 feet 1 inch tall.
