Monument Square in Portland was taken over Saturday, Jan. 20, by a herd of about two dozen dancing “dinosaurs.” The party of people wearing inflatible Tyrannasaurus rex costumes attracted a couple hundred spectators and was organized on social media by Valerie Sanborn of Portland and Alison Cyr of Saco, after similar gatherings gained some attention in places as far-flung as Thailand and Nashville, Tennessee. The costumes are 7 feet tall, 2 feet wide at the shoulders with a 3-foot tail. The next T. rex meet-up in Monument Square is already scheduled for May 23 at 5 p.m. And you thought dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago. (Dudley Warner / For The Forecaster)
