PORTLAND — Assistant Fire Chief Keith Gautreau has been picked to succeed Fire Chief David Jackson on an interim basis next month.
Jackson is retiring at the end of this month; Gautreau’s appointment was announced March 9 by City Manager Jon Jennings. Gautreau has been with the department since 1995, rising through the ranks to become an assistant chief in 2015, according to a city press release.
Gautreau has also been a primary instructor at the city’s fire academies since 2000, city spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said.
With his appointment, Gautreau will also be asked to assess the department as it prepares to modernize. Jennings said Police Chief Michael Sauschuck will assist Gautreau in the process.
