PORTLAND — Keith Gautreau, who has served as acting fire chief since the spring, was named to the post permanently Sept. 21.

The appointment was announced by City Manager Jon Jennings.

Gauteau, a member of the Fire Department since 1995, replaces former Chief David Jackson, who retired March 31.

Gautreau has been an instructor at the city’s fire academies, was promoted to lieutenant in 2003, captain in 2008, deputy fire chief in 2014 and assistant fire chief a year later. As chief, he will earn almost $123,000 annually, according to a city press release.
