PORTLAND — A chiropractor who is using his mustache to fight cancer has been selected as a finalist in a national competition.

Dr. Lou Jacobs is a finalist for the American Mustache Institute’s Mustached American of the Year competition, which rewards people who “use their mustache for good.”

Jacobs, who was profiled in The Forecaster in August, is the creator of Mystache Fights Cancer, a fundraising event for local and national cancer research and treatment, the primary beneficiary of which is the South Portland-based Cancer Community Center.

Anyone interested in voting for Jacobs, whose competitors include a former NBA player and other public figures, can do so online through the AMI’s website. The winner will be announced on Dec. 4.
