PORTLAND — The Portland Museum of Art will host a round-table discussion Friday about the removal of the Maine labor history mural from the Department of Labor building in Augusta.

The panel will include PMA Director Mark Bessire; Sharon Corwin, director and chief curator of the Colby College Art Museum; Maine College of Art professor and director of public engagement Christina Bechstein; and Portland Community Chamber government relations consultant Chris O’Neil.

Gov. Paul LePage and mural artist Judy Taylor were invited, but will not attend. LePage’s decision to remove the mural last month ignited criticism in the art, labor and political spheres.

Friday’s discussion, from noon to 1:30 p.m., will center on public art ownership; admission is free.
