PORTLAND — A 25-year-old Portland man was indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury for the Aug. 12 murder of 58-year-old Richard Meyer.

Shawn Garland is charged with intentional or knowing or depraved indifference murder in Meyer’s stabbing death in a Grant Street apartment.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but a determination that enough evidence exists to prosecute. If convicted, Garland could face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
