PORTLAND — A city man could face federal charges to go with robbery charges after his arrest Monday.

Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch said Francis J. Ready, 58, address undisclosed, was charged with robbing the Bangor Savings Bank branch at 883 Forest Ave. at around 11:50 a.m. Monday.

Police allege Ready displayed a handgun and threatened cashiers before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The bank was empty at the time, and Malloch said Ready was arrested a short distance away.

Malloch said the robbery is also under investigation by the FBI. Officials at the Cumberland County Jail on Tuesday said Ready is being held as a federal prisoner and bail conditions were not available.
