PORTLAND — A 39-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing another man in Bayside on Monday afternoon.

Robert Jerome, whose address was not released by police, allegedly assaulted and stabbed the unidentified male victim, who is 47. Police Lt. Robert Martin said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. near Portland and Alder streets.

The victim was wounded on his hands and chest, Martin said. He was treated at the scene by paramedics, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Martin said the men are acquainted, and Jerome was tracked to a nearby residence and arrested shortly after the incident. He was also charged with violating conditions of release, and was being held at Cumberland County Jail pending a court a appearance.
