PORTLAND — Passenger use continues to soar at the Portland International Jetport, where a record was set in 2018.

Jetport Director Paul Bradbury announced 2.1 million passengers used the airport in 2018, up from 1.86 million the previous year. It marks the third consecutive year a record has been set.

“This is the first time we’ve crossed the 2 million passenger threshold in a single year, and 14 percent growth on our all-time record speaks to the strength of the market we serve,” Bradbury said in a Feb. 22 news release.

Data on passenger use showed a near-even split between departing and arriving passengers, with about 13,000 more passengers arriving than leaving.

Bradbury attributed the increase in part to expanding service by Frontier Airlines and American Airlines, while American, Delta, Southwest, and United airlines all added larger aircraft to serve existing routes.
