Longtime Portland High School boys’ basketball coach Joe Russo (second from right) recently received the inaugural Clubs & Claws Champion Award by Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine at the sixth annual Kids & Claws Dinner held at the Portland Expo. The Clubs & Claws Champion Award recognizes a local coach, organizer or supporter of youth sports that has longstanding and meaningful service to youth development through youth sports involvement. The recipient instills virtues of healthy lifestyles, academic success and good character and citizenship, reflective of the three priority outcomes of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine and Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide.
