PORTLAND — A 15-year-old Portland High School student was arrested last week and later released into the custody of his parents after being charged with terrorizing, according to a Police Department press release Monday.

Lt. Robert Martin said administrators at the high school learned around 7:45 a.m. June 7 that the student had threatened to bring a gun to school. “They immediately notified the School Resource Officer, who found the student in class and removed him around 8 a.m.,” the release said.

A search of the student’s backpack revealed a pellet gun, which resembled a realistic handgun, Martin said. No specific threats were ever made to the school, other students, or staff, he said.

Martin said terrorizing is a Class D misdemeanor and under Police Department policy, the identities of juveniles charged with misdemeanor crimes are not released.

“The Cumberland County district attorney’s Office will review the case for possible criminal charges,” the press release said and the School Department would determine whether any other disciplinary measures are required.
