PORTLAND — Immigration, assimilation and economic opportunities are being examined in local forums this week and through late spring.

“Immigration in Our Future” is the title of an hour-long discussion beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the First Parish Church, 425 Congress St. Moderated by Munjoy Hill resident and Southern Maine Community College adjunct professor Ralph Carmona, the program will feature Mayor Michael Brennan, Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Hall, former University of Southern Maine economics professor Charles Lawton, Immigration Legal Advocacy Project Executive Director Sue Roche and Tae Chong, a business adviser with Coastal Enterprises.

The World Affairs Council of Maine began a monthly series of community dialogues Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Hannaford Hall on the campus of the University of Southern Maine. The series continues with discussions on Feb. 25, March 18, May 1 and June 8 at several city locations. For more information on the series and registration, visit the council website.
