PORTLAND — The city’s Independence Day concert and fireworks have been rescheduled for tonight after being postponed by severe thunderstorms Wednesday.
The Portland Symphony Orchestra’s performance will begin at 7:40 p.m. on the Eastern Promenade. The concert will continue through the fireworks display, which is scheduled to start at 9:20 p.m.
The festivities will mostly follow the plans originally set for July 4, with some changes. Street closures and parking bans from Wednesday continue until 11 p.m. tonight, with Cutter Street and the East End boat launch closed until 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
To accommodate people who are working today, Munjoy Hill will not be closed to traffic until 5:30 p.m., with handicapped-marked vehicles allowed access to first-come first-serve parking via Fore Street until 6 p.m.
Bicycle valet service will not be provided today.
