PORTLAND — A scooter under repair was the source of an accidental fire Wednesday night at Cumberland County Scooters & Cycles, 314 Warren Ave.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Gautreau said no injuries were reported, but the fire caused “moderate to heavy” damage to the business.

Gautreau said the fire was discovered around 9:36 p.m., when police answered a burglar alarm call at the building. Firefighters from throughout the city fought the blaze, which was under control in 20 minutes. It took about 40 minutes more to fully extinguish the fire so investigators could begin their work.

An adjacent business in the building sustained minor smoke damage, Gautreau said.
