PORTLAND — Elementary school students are being asked to create films for the first Portland Children’s Film Festival.

East End Community School is sponsoring the festival March 29 to April 1 at five places throughout the city. The festival includes a contest for elementary students to create films with the theme “Out and About Portland – In and Around My Neighborhood.”

The contest is open to children ages 4 to 11 who are city residents. Films of three minutes or less may include live action, animation, stop-motion and computer-generated graphics.

Each film must  be conceived and produced by a child or children, though adult supervision is allowed. Winning entries will be showed at a March 29 red carpet premier at Nickelodeon Theatre.

The festival also includes feature short and full-length films from around the world that are geared toward children.

Applications and additional information are available at www.portlandchildrensfestival.com. There is a $5 submission fee and the deadline for films is March 15.
