PORTLAND — A $25,000 grant will provide an opportunity for elementary students to build robotic toys out of LEGOs.

Texas Instruments awarded the grant to LearningWorks, an after-school program that operates at East End Community School, Ocean Avenue School, Presumpscot Elementary School and Reiche Community School.

The LEGO Robotics activity is available to students in third through fifth grades. In one activity, students will build an “alligator that opens and closes it mouth using gears, motors, pulleys and belts,” according to a press release from the school district.
