PORTLAND — Ocean Avenue Elementary School has been named an International Baccalaureate World School, the only elementary school in Maine to be designated.
The International Baccalaureate Organization is a nonprofit education organization that focuses on helping students become internationally minded and more active in a globalized future.
The school worked through a multi-year authorization process to become an IB World School. A school-community celebration is planned for Oct. 5.
The only other IB World Schools in Maine are Greely High School in Cumberland, Gray-New Gloucester High School, and Kennebunk High School.
