PORTLAND — University of Maine Law School Dean Danielle Conway will lead a roundtable discussion on racism, diversity and inclusiveness Thursday, Sept. 1, at Reiche Elementary School.

The forum, sponsored by the Portland Democratic City Committee, begins at 5:30 p.m. at the school at 166 Brackett St. Joining Conway in the discussion will be Mayor Ethan Strimling; House District 40 Democratic candidate Rachel Talbot Ross, who is also president of the city NAACP chapter; the Rev. Kenneth Lewis of Green Memorial AME Zion Church; local attorney Kate Knox; Portland teacher Ekhlas Ahmed; photographer Sean Alonzo Harris, and composer Samuel James.

In an Aug. 29 press release, committee Chairwoman Emily Figdor said the roundtable discussion will focus on recent comments by Gov. Paul LePage about race and opioid distribution, and “the broader issue of racism in Maine.”
