PORTLAND — El-Fadel Arbab received the 2009 Peacekeeper of the Year award on Saturday at Peace Action Maine’s annual Peace Supper.

Arbab, a Portland resident, is an activist with the Maine-based Fur Cultural Revival who has been touring the Northeast to raise awareness about the genocide taking placing in Darfur.

Arbab, 25, came to the United States four years ago after escaping a raid on his village by the Sudanese Military and Janjaweed militia.
