PORTLAND — The city’s snow plow crews will go head to head April 23, to see who can manuever their plow trucks best.

The competition consists of races through obstacle courses where drivers will have to dodge mailboxes, cars and other obstructions. They will also be challenged to prove their accuracy by dropping plow blades on targets.

The races begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, on District Road. To get there, take outer Congress Street outbound to Hutchins Drive. District Road is immediately after Hutchins, on the left.

Winners will compete at the Cumberland County competition May 21, at Cape Elizabeh Public Works. The county winner gets to go to the state competition, June 5 in Skowhegan.
