PORTLAND — A City Council public hearing on a $27.9 million bond to replace Fred P. Hall Elementary School is being postponed to Wednesday, Feb. 17.
At the Jan. 20 City Council meeting, City Clerk Katherine Jones said the postponement is necessary because print ads for the scheduled Feb. 1 public hearing did not appear two weeks before the hearing, as required by the City Charter.
The postponement still requires council approval at the Feb. 1 meeting. Jones said the postponement will not affect the anticipated April 5 referendum date.
Councilors will also postpone a vote on placing a portion of the Portland Co. land and buildings at 58 Fore St. in a historic protection zone. The proposed shift will be discussed at a Feb. 8 council workshop.
Although council meetings are typically held on Mondays, the Feb. 17 hearing is due to the Feb. 15 Presidents Day holiday.
